A 2.5 MW solar energy farm has been officially opened in Dobele

At the end of August, a solar farm was inaugurated in Dobele. Representatives from the project developer “AJ Power,” the Dobele Municipality, and AS “Swedbank,” as well as other local entrepreneurs, attended the opening of Dobele solar farm. The project was developed following the most modern and environmentally friendly examples of European solar parks, and it includes the installation of 4,608 bifacial—or double-sided—solar panels capable of capturing sunlight from both sides, thereby increasing the amount of energy generated.

Dobele was immediately identified as one of Latvia’s most industrially developed centres, primarily due to its suitable electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure, and secondly because it is home to a number of strong industrial consumers capable of directly using the green electricity generated by the solar power plant.

“We are glad that our municipality has the highest number of sunny days, but now we also hope to be proud of another statistic—that the largest amount of electricity has been generated here with the help of solar panels. That is our wish for the developers of the park,” stated Ivars Gorskis, Chairman of the Dobele Municipality Council.

Dobeles solar farm has a capacity of 2.50 MW and is expected to generate approximately 2,600 MWh of electricity annually. The green electricity produced has already begun reaching local businesses and residents this summer.

“This project is a clear example of how essential cooperation is in the implementation of solar power plant projects—both with investors who are willing to finance such initiatives and with municipalities. The active involvement of Dobele Municipality was crucial in turning this project from an idea into reality. The new solar power plant will not only promote energy independence in Dobele Municipality but also support the sustainable development of the local community. This project clearly demonstrates how municipalities and project developers can work together to create long-term benefits for both the economy and the environment,” emphasized Kristaps Dīriņš, Managing Director of SIA ProMC and representative of the AJ Power corporate group.

The establishment of the solar power plant in Latvia is just one of the energy project directions currently being developed by “AJ Power” in cooperation with the alternative investment fund manager “AJP Capital” and the “BaltCap” Infrastructure Fund. This project not only promotes the production of renewable energy but also ensures the investment of local capital in the country’s energy development and independence.

SIA “PV Power” is a joint venture between the two funds “Solar Core Plus” and “BaltCap,” along with the “AJ Power” corporate group. It was established with the aim of developing solar energy production in Latvia. “Solar Core Plus” is a fund created by the alternative investment fund manager “AJP Capital.” Established in 2022, the fund attracts capital from Latvian investors and is aimed at investing in the circular economy sector, including significant renewable energy generation projects.
