Legal entities will have the opportunity to dispose of used tires free of charge for the first time

AS AJ Power Recycling, in cooperation with SIA 3R, is offering legal entities the opportunity to dispose of used light vehicle tires free of charge for the first time as part of the environmental campaign Give Tires a Second Life. By registering in advance, companies will be able to dispose of their used tires from February 25 to March 10 at the waste management complex at Atlasa iela 4, Riga, by filling out an electronic form and registering a specific disposal time on the website: www.3r.lv/akcija.

Until now, only private individuals in Latvia had the opportunity to dispose of a limited number of used tires free of charge. Every year, private individuals hand over around 100,000 used tires during the environmental campaign "Give tires a second life," but the number of tires accumulated by Latvian companies could be higher.

Only light vehicle tires can be handed in during the campaign. Up to 500 light vehicle tires will be accepted from one legal entity. Tires from trucks, tractors, and industrial machinery will not be accepted. Please note that tires must not have metal rims, they must be clean, they must not be muddy, and they must not contain any debris – leaves, mud, soil, plastic or other materials are not allowed. Before handing over your tires, please read the terms and conditions of the campaign, which will be sent to the email address provided in the electronic form after your application has been approved.

Uldis Skrebs, Member of the Board of AS AJ Power Recycling: “Over the past six years, we have rid Latvia of more than 5 million used tires. We see accepting tires from legal entities as a logical step that we have purposefully taken in search of opportunities to increase our tire collection and recycling capacity. Various companies – car repair shops, passenger and freight carriers, and other businesses – are actively interested in the possibility of disposing of used tires free of charge every year, so we are particularly pleased that we can finally provide this opportunity.”

The storage of used tires poses significant environmental and safety risks, especially when they are accumulated in large quantities. By sending tires for responsible recycling, their negative impact on the environment is reduced and the material can be reused. After collection, used tires undergo pre-treatment, where they are sorted and processed so that they can be immediately transported to recycling plants. Specialized factories in Europe and elsewhere convert tires into granules, which are then widely used in the production of sports field surfaces, construction, road building, and the manufacture of various mats and surfaces.

Companies will be able to dispose of tires free of charge at the SIA “3R” waste management complex at Atlasa iela 4, Riga, from February 25 to March 10, by registering in advance at: www.3r.lv/akcija. To ensure a convenient and controlled tire disposal process, prior registration is mandatory for legal entities. Tires will only be accepted at pre-booked times from February 25, which are available on the website: www.3r.lv/akcija. Tires will not be accepted without prior registration and electronic confirmation.

Passenger car tires will also be accepted from residents free of charge. During the campaign, up to four passenger car tires without rims can be handed in per car. Tires from trucks, tractors, and industrial machinery will not be accepted. Private individuals can hand in tires at the waste management complex at Atlasa iela 4, Riga, in order of arrival during working hours – every working day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
