The world’s largest basketball jersey made from reused sportswear

The sustainable fashion platform "Bourzma" has launched an initiative aimed at applying for a Guinness World Record by creating the world’s largest basketball jersey. The oversized jersey is being sewn from reused sportswear, combining approximately 500 basketball jerseys.

The initiative’s goal is not only to set a record but also to raise awareness of the environmental impact caused by the textile industry. Bourzma encourages people to give clothing a “second life” in their daily routines, while inspiring with creative examples and showcasing the possibilities of upcycling.

The basketball jersey was chosen as a symbol of Latvia’s sports culture, and its creation coincides with the EuroBasket 2025 championship taking place in Riga. The jerseys needed for the record attempt have been provided with the support of AJ Power Recycling and local basketball players. The project is carried out by five designers from the Bourzma community, who specialize in sustainable fashion and design.

Once the record is confirmed, the giant jersey will be transformed into new collections using its fragments. Currently, the formal process is underway – the Guinness committee is being provided with the required evidence, including video materials and witness statements.
